Chasing the Heart of God

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’   The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.

(Mark 12:28-31)

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

As we embark on the exciting journey of pursuing the heart of God, we must start by understanding how deeply God loves us. Many people have never experienced true love. Many walk around in despair because no one has ever loved them. They often wonder if they will ever experience love. In my opinion, the best example of love comes directly from the Lord God. Our journey must settle this fact in our minds. GOD LOVES ME!

If you are not sure of this fact, your quest to chase Him will end before it begins. The love of God is demonstrated to us every day. His mercy covers us; His grace sustains us and keeps us safe. Even when we sin, the love of God is there to pull us back into obedience.

Remember, we were born in sin and shaped in iniquity. (Psalms 51:5) Yet, our Lord reached out His hand to seek and search for us. His only motivation for finding us was love. HALLELUJAH! Our search for the heart of God begins with this understanding: I must respond to God’s love and learn to rest in His love for me.

In the coming months, we will explore how to deepen our understanding of God’s love for us, and how we translate that love into a life committed to chasing after the heart of God.

Blessings,
